First Light for Sight - A Sunrise Expedition
Robert Phillips
My Story
Dear friends and colleagues, please can you help me to transform lives by raising over € 8,000 for Sightsavers?
I’m taking part in their First Light for Sight Sunrise Expedition - trekking in extreme cold and darkness to see the first sunrise in the Artic Circle of 2023. We head out on January 12th and I sincerely ask for your generous help. The cost of the expedition will be met by a donation from my own business Pendragon Consultancy. This means that any money you give will go directly to saving people’s sight.
Imagine losing your sight bit by bit and with it your ability to see loved ones, go to school, earn a living or to simply take care of yourself. Children around the world are going blind needlessly from excruciating conditions such as Trachoma or debilitating conditions such as River Blindness and Cataracts. This condemns them to a life of dependency and poverty. The tragedy is that this is easily and cheaply avoidable and these children didn’t have to go blind at all.
Sightsavers is a high impact charity. Since their work began, they have distributed more than 600 million treatments and have facilitated more than 8 million sight saving operations. They also have a programme of training eye care workers in multiple countries to tackle what is a spiralling global problem. Sightsavers’ vision is that no one should go blind as a result of avoidable causes.
This is why I am putting myself out of my comfort zone in undertaking this expedition. Please give what you can and join me in making a vital difference to so many lives. Visit https://www.sightsavers.org/protecting-sight/ for more information. Many thanks, Rob.
