First Light for Sight - Arctic Challenge 2025

My Story
I'm taking part in Sightsavers' First Light for Sight Sunrise Expedition to help provide essential eye-care, treatment and surgeries worldwide and in particular the developing world.
Our mission is to trek through the Arctic Circle over the course of a week, hauling heavy Pulk Sleds, snowshoeing and camping out in temperatures as low as -35°.
In 2023 alone, Sighstavers conducted nearly 500,000 Cataract surgeries, delivered 12,000 surgeries for Trachoma (where the eyelashes turn in on the eye, scraping the retina) and supported nearly 6000 children with disabilities to receive educational support across 11 countries. But we can still do more.
Here's where your donation can go:
- €38 for an adult Cataract operation
- €108 for a child Cataract operation
- €111 can pay for advanced Trachoma treatment, 21c can provide medication to prevent Trachoma.
- Just €1.15 can provide screenings for children for eye conditions
To put things into context, Trachoma was prevalent in Ireland up until the 1950s!
Please contribute what you can, every cent will make a monumental difference.
